Validation in IFS
Validation is the practice of communicating with someone so they feel seen, heard, accepted, valued, and loved — not intellectually, but in the body. It sounds simple, and in IFS it's anything but. The moments that most need validation — a client's profound grief, an exile's shame, anger that feels righteous — are the same moments that activate our own parts: the one that wants to fix, the one reaching for reassurance, the clinician part that already knows where this is going. When those parts are blended, we can't meet the client from Self, however skilled our technique.
This Masterclass teaches validation as an advanced IFS practice — a concrete, nine-step process for noticing and unblending from your own parts in the moment, so you can offer the kind of understanding that lets a client's system feel safe enough for Self to emerge. You already have the foundational skills. This is about applying them where they're hardest to hold.

The Framework We'll Work From
We'll learn the framework and apply it live: to real clinical moments for therapists, and to the charged dynamics of the training room for Program Assistants, who are often holding participants, colleagues, and trainers alongside their own parts, all at once.
At the center of the Masterclass is Dr. Barre’s nine-step practice of validation, the framework at the heart of her work, taught here specifically for IFS practitioners and Program Assistants. If you work in IFS, you'll recognize its arc: the first movement is unblending from your own protectors and concerned parts, and the second is meeting another person from Self. Validation, done well, is Self-led presence made practical — and the nine-step practice is how you get there in real time, in the moments that are hardest to stay in.
