Closing the Gap - Part 1

January 8, 2025 – This was such a great conversation with Kacey Montgomery, host of Closing the Gap, a podcast that addresses the barriers and challenges for young women entering academic and professional fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics typically populated by men. We talk about Internal Family Systems, examples of how parts begin to take on roles of protectors and exiles. We touch on Self Energy. We wandered into the personal and back out into the general then back to the personal.

What is invalidation and why can it be considered and experienced as a trauma? What is trauma? Why do some of us develop the symptoms of the disorder we call Post Traumatic Stress and some don’t? How might experiences affect the way a young person navigates daily life? What does Internal Family Systems apply to closing the gap for females in the STEM fields? In the classroom and in the home? How do legacy burdens show up in young women when they are faced with the decisions regarding their future? What larger external systems affect our internal systems?

We enjoyed the conversation so much we did a second part that will be offered in the next blog posting.

Give it a listen!
